Meet DeAngel and Mathilde, two of our great grads

This graduation season has been anything but normal. But what we know for sure is that we still had great kids graduating from high schools all over the region. They overcame obstacles greater than most teens will ever face.

More than 55 teens in foster care and independent living programs earned their diplomas this year. We are grateful to everyone who supported each of them, including teachers, aides, caseworkers, GALs, foster parents, bio parents, KISR! reps and HEMI mentors.

We usually try to capture each grad on video. The pandemic made that impossible. This video, shot before the coronavirus, highlights two teens who already have experienced much success. It shows what kids can do when they have the support they need.

DeAngel is already moved in at Wright State University in Dayton, where she wants to study journalism. Mathilde will soon leave for the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She wants to study photography and design.

We bet you’ll be inspired.
