We Need Foster Families to Keep Kids Close to Home

Every couple of weeks or so, Hamilton County child welfare workers pull out a cot between the desks and file cabinets of their downtown Cincinnati office building and put a child to sleep because they can’t find a suitable family member or an available foster home.

While this is relatively new for the county, it is not an anomaly, said Moira Weir, director of the county’s Jobs and Family Services.

“It is not something I am proud of,” said Weir. “Does it happen every week? No. It ebbs and flows.”
